Last Day of School 2023-2024

Today is our last day of school. My middle child made apple turnovers for breakfast. My two high schoolers had one last test to take and one more health lesson to complete. My middle schooler had a lapbook to finish for zoology and one last lesson for Spanish and government. I finished grading everything, updated their transcripts, and finished the report cards. Then, we picked up lunch from Panda Express to celebrate.

We still have some chores to complete around the house (Friday is our house cleaning day), and the girls are all in a play this afternoon at the local library as part of the Tween/Teen Drama Club. Watching my kids and their friends act out “The Wizard of Oz” seems like a pretty good way to wrap up the last day of school.

I know there are homeschool moms who go all out, plan a fun outing for the last day, maybe special activities and pictures with “Last Day of School” signs. I am not that mom. Rather than stress about trying to be someone that I am not, and possibly ruining the relaxed flow of today by doing too much in the name of fun, we kept it simple. It has been a demanding spring, with my middle daughter’s cancer diagnosis and surgery, and it is nice to at least have one big thing that we can say “Done!” to.
