Each of my girls had a different preschool experience. My oldest spent five days a week for three years in PPCD, the public school preschool program for children, in a special classroom for kids on the autism spectrum. My middle daughter attended Kids Day Out two days a week at the local church when she was four to help prepare her for kindergarten. By the time my youngest reached preschool age, we had started homeschooling.

Despite the different environments, all three girls learned colors, to recognize the words for each color, and to spell them (to some extent) in preschool. Out first year homeschooling, when my girls were preschool, 1st grade, and 2nd grade, I decided to spend one semester introducing Spanish and one semester introducing French. Just for clarification, I am a native English speaker who took Spanish in high school and again in college, and who never took a French course. Needless to say, I used a lot of websites, videos, and library books to help with French pronounciation. But in the end, they could all identify colors and count to ten in both languages!

I created the color match-ups cards to use with our Spanish and French colors lessons, as well as with my preschooler to learn the color words in English. These cards were the first products in my TPT store, and have been offered as freebies for many years. I’m pleased to take a little trip down memory lane and showcase these useful match-up cards for this week’s Freebie Friday post.

Here are the links to these resources in my TPT store, North Star Homeschool Resources:
Print on cardstock in either the color version or black-and-white version. The black-and-white version is nice because the child can color in the words with crayons or markers before cutting out. In fact, the child can be introduced to the cards with the color version, and then make their own colored set with the black and white version.
I hope this resource is useful to you and fun for your child(ren). Just a reminder that my TPT store is having a 20% off sale this weekend, 4/11-4/14, in honor of my birthday!
