I am a huge believer in a four-day school week for homeschool, especially high school. Life always happens. Days get interrupted. Leaving space on Fridays has the solution.

When my children were in elementary school, I left space on Fridays, but in a different way. We used Fridays for field trips, hands-on centers, and educational games. Fridays were Fun-days. Now, Fridays are sometimes used for field trips, but mostly as catch-up days. We simply have appointments, extracurricular events, out-of-town events, etc. that we did not have years ago. As our lives and schedules evolve, so must our homeschool.
Creating lesson plans for six subjects, four days a week means our high school day runs from 9am to 4pm. If there are appointments or events that week, the lesson gets pushed forward. Open Fridays save the week. Having that catch-all waiting for us takes the stress out of unexpected interruptions.
Even if you are fortunate enough that interruptions do not often happen in your homeschool, leaving open space in your schedule, even if it is just one day per month, can give your lesson plans breathing room for spontaneous game days, outings, or just rest days.
