Five ways for your students to fall in love with Biology

  1. Use videos to help explain complex topics, like Amoeba Sisters and Crash Course Biology.
  2. Teach concepts with fun, hands-on experiences. Labs can be engaging and fun without specialized equipment or complicated prep.
  3. Use models! Engage students by building models of biological systems. Explaining the process and drawing parallels between models and real-world phenomena utilizes critical thinking skills.
  4. Skip boring review worksheets and use games and puzzles to review for exams! Games use competition to engage students and are easy to implement. Reviewing can be fun!
  5. Get out of the classroom and go on field trips to observe biology up close! Botanical gardens, zoos, nature hikes in public spaces, and science museums bring textbook examples to life.

You may have noticed that there is a common theme in these 5 tips of making biology relatable, fun, and engaging for your student(s). Homeschool biology curriculum is not meant just be a textbook, it is meant to be an experience. Make sure to include experiences in your science classes that helps your student to build a relationship with biology, maybe even fall in love with it!
