I am SO excited to share this with you: my first ever book is now LIVE on Amazon!

The Ultimate Homeschool Biology Review by Jennifer Burden

Writing and publishing a book has been on my bucket list for years. After spending the last year creating a biology curriculum for high school homeschoolers, a friend that writes abacus math workbooks suggested I create a biology workbook.

I decided to create a review book with reading and comprehension questions as well as a trivia game for different biology topics. Homeschool parents have a large selection of biology curricula and workbooks available, but there did not seem to be many comprehensive review books available specifically for homeschoolers. I decided to take a year’s worth of key biology concepts and group them into 24 main topics, so the book would be easy to use on a daily basis throughout the year, or as an end of year review during the last month of school.

The topics include:

  • Scientific Method
  • Organization of Living Systems
  • Biomolecules
  • Enzymes & Reactions
  • Plant & Animal Cells
  • The Cell Membrane
  • Photosynthesis & Respiration
  • Mitosis & Meiosis
  • Genetics
  • DNA & Protein Synthesis
  • Evolution
  • Symbiotic Relationships
  • Energy Flow & Cycles
  • Prokaryotes & Viruses
  • Protists & Fungi
  • The Plant Kingdom
  • Invertebrate Animals
  • Vertebrate Animals
  • Skeletal & Muscular Systems
  • Nervous & Endocrine Systems
  • Circulatory & Respiratory Systems
  • Digestive & Excretory Systems
  • Immune & Integumentary Systems
  • Male & Female Reproductive Systems

Take a peek inside the book! Amazon has a preview available of the first five topics. You will notice that all of the reading sections are one to one and a half pages long and followed by three to four multiple choice questions. The answer key is located on the last pages of the book.

Each reading passage is also followed by a trivia game board and a page of 20 trivia cards. The game board and cards were printed single sided so they can be removed from the book for play, as the cards will need to be cut apart. However, if you plan on reusing the game with younger siblings or with multiple student groups at co-op, I recommend making copies onto cardstock. My personal preference is to use colored cardstock in a different color for each game so I can quickly determine which cards go with which game.

Print different games on different colors of card stock for easier visual organization.

This review book is perfect for homeschool students in ninth or tenth grade taking biology. It would also be a great addition to a co-op biology class, as the reading comprehension could be assigned during the week and then the game played on co-op days.
