Teaching Tip #19: Getting ready for a homeschool graduation

(This post contains links that I, as an Amazon Affiliate, will receive compensation for if purchases are made through those links. Thank you for your support!)

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel for my high school senior. She is my second student to graduate from homeschool. Luckily, we were happy with the choices that we made for my oldest daughter who graduated in May ’25, so we will be sticking with those same choices this time around.

For her cap and gown, she chose a light blue from Graduation Mall on Amazon. The company did send the wrong year on the tassel, and we did not realize until it was too close to the graduation photos to replace it, however they did send a replacement for her to use on her graduation day.

Since she has an A average, including unweighted grades from her dual credit college classes, I ordered an honor stole, also from Graduation Mall on Amazon. For cords, I ordered a royal blue honor cord for theater as she has been involved in Shakespeare Under the Stars, Shakespeare on the River, and the drama club at the local library as an actor and director throughout high school. For all of those years, she has also been involved in 4-H, so I ordered the green and white honor cords with the 4-H logo charm from the Shop 4-H website.

For additional personalized graduation gifts, I ordered a custom Funko Pop with graduation robe holding a cap and diploma. There wasn’t a great match for her dirty blonde hair, so I went with regular blonde. My youngest said it is too light and I should have ordered the brown hair. Oh well. As a souvenir of her year as 4-H club president, I ordered an engraved gavel from the Shop 4-H website.

I still need to order a diploma. The diploma that we received last year for my oldest from Homeschool Diploma’s website was easy to order and beautiful. I found the price reasonable, however I did not add on a bunch of extras. I am sure that I could have found a free template and printed it at home on marbled resume paper and ordered a cover from Amazon, but I liked the ease of ordering and professional look of the diploma from their website.

The other item that still needs to be checked off the list soon is ordering her graduation announcement and invitations. Last year, we ordered these for my oldest through Sam’s Club Photo and were very pleased. My only complaint is the minimum order is more than what we needed and I have a box of invitations, announcements, and thank you photo cards still sitting in my closet. Despite this waste, we will probably use Sam’s Club Photo again due to price, ease in ordering, and turn-around time. *At the time of typing this, I went to their website to get a link, and the site is down, referring users to the Wal-Mart Photo site. The cards may all come form the same place, so if this is a permanent change, will probably use Wal-Mart or check out Costco’s options.

With the graduation ensemble, diploma, custom mementos, and announcements/invitations done, all that is left if the ceremony/party itself!
